“Silly Momma” is the first book in The Family Tree Series.  It is a heartwarming story of a little girl with an endless stream of questions and the sweet answers she has for them.  On the child side, it focuses on the way children interpret the world around them, using any previously stored knowledge they have to do so.  For the mother, it centers around how a momma’s love is so pure.  Instead of correcting the creative answers of her child with the true explanation, she just stands back and smiles and soaks those quickly fleeing moments up.  This is a story for both mother and child.

It captures the innocence of a child and the ever-lasting love between a mother and her child.

This story was inspired from one of my mother’s daily emails to me.  She sends me and my 2 sisters an email that she calls, “Thoughts of you”, where she just loves on us in words and reminds us of how special we are to her.  In one of the letters, she relived her favorite story of me from when I was little.  She said I was outside and she noticed I was squatted down, studying something very intensely.  A little bit later I ran into the house and said:

“Momma, there is a dead burd out in the backyard.  How do you tell if it is a gurl burd or a buoy burd?” (Yes, that is how I talked.)  My “r’s”, at that time, were an obstacle for my little tongue!)

She said, “I really don’t know honey.” I ran back outside and began evaluating the situation again.  Later, I found my way back to mom and stated, “Momma, I know how to tell if that is a gurl burd or a buoy burd.” Inquisitively she asked, “How?”
I boldly exclaimed, “Because gurl burds have fingernails and buoy burds don’t!” (Well, duh!!)

Of course I had to change that scenario a bit for the story because I didn’t think a dead bird would be very endearing or entertaining!  From that moment, the story wrote itself within a few minutes.  I laughed as I wrote each stanza and thought back on how mom let me keep those innocent explanations as long as I wanted.  The world quickly enough introduces harsh truth and cold reality to children.  I cherish those memories and times when the world was so simple.  When the difference between male and female was whether or not you had long fingernails or curled eyelashes, and the rolling rumble of thunder was scarier than it sounded, for it was really just the angels playing a friendly game of bowling!  My goal for this story was to capture the nature of a child and hopefully bring back those memories to a parent of their own childhood.  I pray you and your child will enjoy “Silly Momma” as much as I enjoyed writing it.

“For all the mothers who love and adore their children
with every breath in their body and beat of their heart.
This is for you.  May you laugh and cherish
these priceless nuggets of joy from your own little treasure.”

My Mema Has Wings” is the second book in The Family Tree Series”.  Losing a special loved one is one of life’s most difficult experiences for both children and adults.  It can be hard to address this situation with all
the pain and emotions that can overwhelm us during that time.  This book is a tool to be used to help bring comfort to children in the event of losing a loved one.  It is also to help them in the months and years to follow.
May this book open the door to all the wonderful memories.  To laugh, to love, to remember….ALWAYS!

“May you always laugh and smile
Though this home now I must leave.
I take with me a piece of you
And leave you a piece of me.”
